The present concepts of sustainable development,bio-economy and circular economy are increasingly beingapplied to the synthesis of molecules of industrialinterest. Among these molecules, furfural as a platformmolecule is the subject of various research approachesto improve its synthesis and productivity, and also to extendits transformation for the production of moleculesof interest. Due to the current momentum in promotinggreen chemistry for sustainable development, chemistshave recently established catalytic reactions based on alternativetechnologies such as continuous flow. The present study showed recent breakthroughs obtainedin the production of furfural [1], hydroxymethylfuran [2],methylfuran [2], methyl levulinate [3] and ï§-valerolactone[4] starting from lignocellulose in the presence of homogeneouscatalysts and heterogeneous catalysts using eitherbatch process or continuous flow process. Variousreaction parameters in dependence of time such as temperature, catalyst and feedstock loadings as well as solventtypes have been optimized.Conception, synthesis and physico-chemical propertieswill be detailed.
