Abstract

Revisiting Clevidipine Experience in the Pediatric Population: a Perioperative Perspective

F. Sacchet-Cardozo

Clevidipine is an intravenous calcium channel antagonist of the dihydropyridine class that acts primarily as a vasodilator of the arterial bed. During pediatric surgeries, boluses from 10 to 20 mcg/kg and infusions from 0.5 to 5 mcg/kg/min have been used for the treatment of hypertension or when controlled hypotension is required. Clevidipine’s fast metabolism allows a precise titration of drug if higher or lower doses are required. Future prospective clinical trials will provide further knowledge regarding clevidipine’s safety profile in pediatric patients.
