Introduction

Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological disorder in which the brain cells die and this Alzheimer’s disease is a cause for dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive or prolonged neurological disease in which it effects the memory and thinking ability and also cannot perform simple tasks. Elderly people gets more effected with this Alzheimer’s disease. The symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease grow gradually and leads to inability to perform certain tasks.

About the Disease

Alzheimer’s disease is neurological disorder starts slowly and develop into serious condition. The main cause of dementia is ultimately the more percent of Alzheimer’s disease. The symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease are of memory loss, cognitive defects, trouble in speech and thinking, changes in the mood and personality, trouble in writing, decrease in the judgment and unable to perform daily activity. Around 5 million people suffer with the Alzheimer’s disease in the world. In Alzheimer’s disease the cause is yet known but it occurred mainly due to the formation of clumps and tangles or bundle of fibers in the brain and these fibers or tangles are located in brain especially in the specific region where thinking and performing of the daily activities are dene in that region. Age is one most important risk factor of Alzheimer’s disease. Persons who are with Alzheimer’s disease cannot or doesn’t have the ability to perform daily activities like thinking, cooking, driving vehicle, get lost things easily and cannot remember where things are kept. Life span of People with Alzheimer’s disease may be up to three to four years when the person is around 80 years of age and the life span increase with Alzheimer’s disease who are younger in age.

Conclusion

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in United States. Alzheimer’s disease has no cure or permanent cure. Amyloid is the hallmark that leads to Alzheimer’s disease. The one treatment is the removal of amyloid so that the disease can be reduced or decrease the progression. The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease can be done by performing MRI CT scan of the brain and certain blood tests are done. Memory and cognitive tests , genetic testing and neurological tests are done. As Alzheimer’s disease occurs through the death of brain cells these cannot be reversed so there is no cure for this Alzheimer’s disease. No drugs area available for treating Alzheimer’s disease but there are three drugs which are approved by the food and drug administration to reduce the symptoms which occur during the Alzheimer’s disease. These drugs are prescribed according to the stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Donepezil is a drug which is prescribed or given to treat all stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Galantamine is a drug which is used to treat mild-to-moderate stages of Alzheimer’s disease. The third drug which is called as rivastigmine is given to treat mild-to-moderate stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease can be managed by Helping the people to maintain the brain health and management of behavioral symptoms and slowing or delaying or reducing the symptoms of the disease. Support of family members and friends must be provided to Alzheimer’s disease people.
