Cardiac catheterization, also known as coronary angiography, is a medical procedure used to diagnose and treat various cardiovascular conditions. It involves the insertion of a thin, flexible tube called a catheter into the blood vessels of the heart. This article provides an overview of cardiac catheterization, its purpose, procedure, risks, and benefits. Cardiac catheterization serves multiple purposes in the field of cardiovascular medicine. Primarily, it helps in the diagnosis of heart conditions by providing detailed information about the structure and function of the heart and its blood vessels. In some cases, interventional procedures such as angioplasty or stent placement can be performed during the same procedure to treat any identified blockages.
