I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in the Philippines while my Master of Science degree was gained in the Philippines in conjunction with The University of Hong Kong. During this time my area of study was on the diversity and ecology of endophytic fungi from medicinal plants. As a doctoral student I studied the molecular diversity of extremophiles through the School of Biological Sciences at The University of Hong Kong. After gaining my doctorate I lived and worked in Hong Kong until 2015, conducting research on the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of microorganism from extreme environments, and oral microbial ecology relating to periodontal diseases. My current research focuses on metagenomics of oral microorganism and how they relate to systemic disease.
Ecological and evolutionary dynamics of microorganisms, Metagenomics, Microbial stress responses, Oral microbiology (human, equine and canine).
