Dr. Andres Herane Vives
Department of Psychological Medicine
Psychiatrist, Affective Disorders Research Group, Institute of Psychiatry, United Kingdom
I studied Medicine at the Catholic University of Chile and Psychiatry at the University of Chile. I have done externship programmes at the University of Barcelona in 2005 and 2007 with Drs Vieta and Scott. I did a master in Psychiatric research at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at Kings college London and currently I am in the process of finalising my thesis for obtaining the degree of PhD in Psychological Medicine in the same university. My project utilised a novel method of assessment of long-term stress and its relationship to several affective and related disorders. For that purpose, I obtained hair and fingernails samples. These samples were prospectively cross correlated with salivary cortisol measures to validate hair and fingernails cortisol as an accurate measure of long-term activity of Hypothalamus pituitary adrenal activity. In doing so, I expect to clarify biological distinctions between subtypes of affective disorders and chronic fatigue disorder.
Stress and Mood disorder.
