Dr. Joni H Ylostalo serves as an Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Dr. Ylostalo received his BS degree in Biochemistry and his MS degree in Biochemistry (Biotechnology and Molecular Biology) from University of Oulu. Dr. Ylostalo obtained his PhD in Biomedical Sciences in 2008 from Tulane University where he studied the transcriptional changes in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) during differentiation and culture expansion. Dr. Ylostalo did his postdoctoral research at Texas A&M studying 3D cultures and immunomodulatory effects of MSCs. Dr. Ylostalo served as an Instructor at Texas A&M for 2 years and was a microarray core facility director for 6 years before joining the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Dr. Ylostalo has published numerous articles, book chapters, and protocols, relating to MSC biology, gene expression analysis, and protein biochemistry. Dr. Ylostalo?s current research interests include characteristics and applications of 3D cultures of MSCs.
