He attended University of Istanbul, Cerrahpasa Medical School in 1982 but moved to San Francisco in 1987 to attend University of California in San Francisco for junior and senior year. He had his training in Internal Medicine in Griffin Hospital, a Yale University Affiliated Program, and then moved to New York City to be trained in Hematology Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Mount Sinai School of Medicine Hospital. Then he moved back to Turkey and worked at Marmara University in Istanbul as a program director in between 1997-2010 and appointed as Professor of Medicine in 2006. He has over 100 peer reviewed international publications and about 1350 citations to them. He is a member of ASCO, ESMO, EORTC, BUON, TTOD. He is board certified in Medical Oncology until 2016 by ESMO and until 2017 by ABIM. He is recently elected as the President of European Union of Medical Specialists, Oncology Section.
