Gangjian Qin, MD is Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University, Chicago. He has published over 70 original research articles and numerous reviews, book chapters, and editorials. He serves on the editorial boards of 10 journals in stem cell biology and cardiovascular sciences and as an expert reviewer for over 40 biomedical journals. Dr. Qin?s research program is dedicated to defining the molecular mechanisms that underlie cardiovascular biology and contribute to the recovery from cardiovascular disease, and to translating the results from these basic science investigations to clinical applications. A portion of his research focuses on the transcriptional networks and genetic pathways that control the growth and function of blood vessels, with particular attention devoted to the involvement of the E2F transcription factors in ischemic angiogenesis and blood pressure regulation.
Dr. Qin is also committed to improving the effectiveness of stem- and progenitor-cell therapy for the treatment of ischemic disease by characterizing the molecular interactions between various stem-cell populations (e.g., bone-marrow derived stem/progenitor cells, cardiac progenitor cells) and their microenvironment, and by investigating the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that govern the differentiation of embryonic and induced-pluripotent stem (ES and iPS) cells.
