uc van der Laan studied Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Amsterdam and in 1998 received his PhD in Immunology at the Free University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He worked for three years as post-doc in the lab of Prof. Dan Salomon at The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California/USA, studying islets transplantation and xenogenic infections. Currently he is Associate Professor at the department of Surgery, Erasmus MC-University Medical Center, Rotterdam. As head of the Laboratory of Experimental Transplantation and Intestinal Surgery (LETIS) research is focused on tissue injury, infection and regeneration in organ transplantation. Dr. van der Laan serves as committee member of the International Society of Liver Transplantation (ILTS) and as councilor of the Dutch Transplantation Society. He trained many undergraduate and PhD students, received several mentor and publication awards and authors over hundred international peer-reviewed papers and chapters.
