Biography

Dr Rathna Devi Vaithilingam is an Associate Professor in Periodontology in the Department of Restorative Dentistry, University of Malaya. She received her MClinDent (Periodontology) in 2006 from the University of Malaya. She has served in various administrative positions and is currently the Head of Periodontology discipline. In her 9 years of clinical practice as a periodontist, she has been involved in the continuous development of the postgraduate and undergraduate periodontology teaching programmes. She has been actively involved in periodontal research in Malaysia and has pioneered the setting up of the first periodontal biobank in the country. She is also principle investigator in various research projects with an empasis on periodontal ? systemic interrelationship, genetic polymorphisms in periodontology and periodontal regenerative studies using platelet rich protein. She is currently the President of the Malaysian Society of Periodontology and is a member of the International Association for Dental Research.
