Influenza A H1N1 pneumonia in a pregnant lady complicated with acute respiratory distress syndrome: A case study

Abstract:

Pneumonia is an inflammatory disease of lung parenchyma which is caused by infectious microorganism, bacteria, viruses and fungi. Pregnancy is considered as a risk factor of influenza infection and its related morbidity and mortality. Bacterial pneumonia complicating influenza infection is associated with high morbidity and mortality. The aim of this case study is to present this difficult and complicated case diagnosis and management. Also, we aimed to raise the attention about the team work benefits. This report presents A 39 year’s old female patient, pregnant 32 weeks presented with high grade fever associated with cough and breathing difficulty for last three days before admission. Clinically she was diagnosed as pneumonia and she was admitted in ICCU due to hypoxemia. On the second day patient get worse and connected to mechanical ventilation. An elective caesarian section was done in ICCU and baby was shifted to NICU. Swab for H1N1 and corona viruses were done. Results came with influenza A H1N1 was detected and patient was managed as a case of H1N1 community acquired pneumonia complicated with ARDS and respiratory failure. Patient stayed in ICCU on high frequency oscillatory ventilation, received oseltamivir and course of antibiotics. She was discharged after improvement and her baby also was in a good health.
