Abstract:

Introduction: The WHO refers that 3.5% to 7.0% of people between the ages of 15-64 years have used an illicit drug. In México, 1.5% of the people use illicit drugs. Parents with drug abuse disorder can show negligent behaviour, can spread a context of danger, violence and a family environment with rigid or very flexible rules; children exposed to this family context will develop cognitive disturbance, impulse-control problems and age of onset drug use diminished. Objective: To evaluate parental rearing perception, state of mind, resilience and executive functions in adolescents with drug addicted parents. Methodology: 29 adolescents, 15 with drug addicted parent (experimental), 14 without drug addicted parent (control); were applied questionnaires of general data, BANFE-2 test to evaluate executive function, tripartite scale of anxiety and depression, scale of resilience and EMBU-I (rearing perception) Results: Adolescents with drug addicted parents are mostly cared by their relatives (X2=4.27, p<0.04), all of them are smokers (X2=25.25, p<0.0001) and belonging to an extended family. Experimental group show lowest performance in the prefrontal cortex (16.20±2.73 vs. 17.92±1.89, p<0.05), lateral area (171.06±17.67 vs. 193.5±27.12, p<0.02) and score total of BANFE-2 test (370.60±36.50 vs. 402.1±31.63, p<0.02); in addition showing a higher number of severe or serious disturbance in the prefrontal cortex (X2=3.55, p=0.5). Although control group has higher levels of resilience and perceived rearing, has lower levels of anxiety and depression, these trends aren’t statistically significant. Conclusion: Experimental group shows lower performance in front and lateral area, lower scores in total of executive function test; lower levels of resilience and rearing perception and higher levels of anxiety and depression.
