Abstract:

Childcare must go beyond providing physical care based only on a biological vision centered on the disease and any surgical interventions that may be undertaken. You should also consider your emotional, social needs and include the use of appropriate communication and relationship skills. Among these, we highlight the therapeutic toy that confers a structured play and follows the principles of ludoterapia with specific objectives will be achieved. Its use allows for the relief of anxiety caused by atypical experiences for the age, which usually are considered as threatening which requires an intervention that favors the confrontation by the child and family that will be submitted to an invasive procedure. Therapeutic play intervention when being employed to prepare the child for some procedure allows the child to know what to expect and how to participate in the procedure; understand its purpose; get involved in the situation; manipulate the material and establish a relationship of trust with the professional. It contributes to the relief of tensions and demystification of the fears related to the procedure and hospitalization. It also favors the child’s adaptation, reduction of cry, anxiety, agitation, nervousness and aggression during the procedure. Parents who also participate in the Therapeutic Toy sessions with the children receive an important source of support and protection and recognize the benefit of this resource. It also facilitates the communication of the health team with the child and the therapeutic relationship.
