Primary eye care

Primary eye care is one of the vital components in primary health care and it includes the advancement and promotion of eye health care, the prevention that may lead to visual loss, and treatment of conditions that may lead to visual impairment as well as the restoration of those who are already blind. Ophthalmologists are trained specifically to provide these services because their medical education provides a thorough understanding of systemic disorders with ocular manifestations, pathology and disease processes, as well as skills and experience in medical decision-making. Primary eye care provides diagnosis and treatment of most eye conditions, helps referral to specialists and maintains coordination with other aspects of medical care.
