Hepatic Glucagon Receptor (GCGR) Signaling to Drive Alpha Cell Hyperproliferation and Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Formation.

Hypoglycemia causes the pancreatic alpha cells to produce glucagon, which promotes hepatic glucose synthesis. Deregulated glucagon secretion is linked to type 2 diabetes, and elevated glucagon levels contribute to diabetic hyperglycemia. Endocrine cells of the pancreatic islets are known as alpha cells (α-cells).
