    Personality and Exercise as Predictors for Body Image

    The paper reviews previous research on the topic of personality, exercise and body image. Studies have suggested associations between personality dimension and body image, but these have not been conclusive yet. This study was performed in order to examine if personality and type of exercise can be used to predict body image, as well to investigate in the new topic of pole dancing and if it affects body image appreciation. The study used a correlational cross-sectional design with one dependent variable which was body image and three independent variables, the gender of the participant, the type of exercise and the five personality dimensions. The study showed that neuroticism was negatively associated with body appreciation, extraversion and conscientiousness was positively associated with body image, exercise has a significant effect on body image apprecia..
